Day 159

The good news first:
No water running down three floors of our house.. YAY!

Things are still a bit damp in the 1st floor kitchen and in the basement. But they will dry out soon.

We got all of the rest of the plaster, lathe and insulation out of the 2nd floor tower. We are getting close to the fun part of this room. Sometime this week we will be doing the wiring in there. It will be nice to have electricity in there again. With it starting to get dark earlier in the evening it gets harder to work in there after supper. We just have a bit of clean up before we can start on that.

Jonathan has been working on all of the home automation. In fact right now he is sitting at his computer working on the program to get things running. I don't think I have talked much about what we are hoping that our home will be able to do yet. We want to have an intercom system. We have already found that it is hard to find someone in the house and you don't want to run up and down the stairs to go looking for them. He is also planning on having all of the lights and fans on this system. This way if we forgot to shut off a light somewhere we can do it from any intercom box, or even my parents' house. We are going to have moisture sensors in the walls so we will have early warning of leaks. At some time there will be camera set up in place for security. We have even discussed the possibility of automating the drapes to open when we want to bring heat and light in and closing them when we want to keep it out. Oh, and being able to tell if a window is open from any intercom box. As this is the first room we are going to be finishing (along with the bathroom) we need to make sure all of the wire and things are in place before we close up the walls.

We are going to name our house "Howl". Has anyone seen Howl's Moving Castle directed by Hayao Miyazaki? It is a great movie, one of my favorites. Then who remembers Hal from 2001? Well, I hope that our computerized house turns out just the way that we want it to.
